Starting Over (Even When You’re Experienced)
For the last 10 years, I ran a DEI consulting practice.
And before that? Nearly 20 years in corporate—leading, advising, building, fixing, carrying.
That business wasn’t random. It was a direct extension of the work I had already mastered.
And yet… here I am.
Relaunching.
Repositioning.
Reintroducing myself.
And if I’m being honest, it feels like starting over.
Not because I lack experience.
Not because I forgot how to do the work.
But because new seasons have a way of humbling you—even when you’re qualified.
What’s different this time is important.
I’m doing things I wish I had done in the first ten years:
-
Trusting that my knowledge and expertise are enough
-
Not over-explaining or over-proving
-
Letting clarity replace hustle
-
Building from confidence instead of fear
Still… the feelings show up.
The second-guessing.
The quiet anxiety.
The “am I doing this right?” moments.
So if you’re in a season where you know you’re capable, but it still feels tender… you’re not behind.
You’re not failing.
You’re not starting from scratch.
You’re starting from experience—and that matters.
I want you to know this because I’m in it too.
Different season. Same human emotions.
And the truth I keep coming back to is this:
Starting over doesn’t erase what you’ve built.
It refines how you build next.
If you’re navigating a restart—by choice or by circumstance—let this be your reminder:
You don’t need more credentials.
You don’t need permission.
You don’t need to become someone new.
You just need to trust the woman you already are.If this season feels familiar and you’re trying to make sense of what’s next, I created a Starter Kit to help you see your experience clearly and move forward with intention. It’s not about reinventing yourself—it’s about owning what you already bring.
You’re not alone in this.
And you don’t have to figure it out quietly. 💛
